Token is a word that you hear a lot in cryptocurrency. Technically “token” is just another word for “cryptocurrency”, but it has taken on a couple of more specific meanings. While a cryptocurrency operates independently and uses its own platform, a token is a cryptocurrency built on top of an existing blockchain.

CRYPTO: The crypto payment startup that has over $87M from celebrity investments
MoonPay, the company that lets consumers pay for digital assets with credit cards and is known for streamlining the process of buying an NFT ape has raised $86.7 million from an extensive list of celebrities. Some of those celebrities are Justin Bieber, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Matthew McConaughey. The new round of investment is meant to help propel the company toward its goal of being the PayPal of cryptocurrency while providing a concierge service to its users.
The 4-year-old company is now valued at over $3.4 billion being the largest and highest valued Series A for any bootstrapped crypto company.
NFT: Meta plans to take a nearly 50% cut of virtual asset sales in its metaverse.
Meta announced plans to let creators sell virtual products in Horizon Worlds, but don’t get too excited quite yet. Meta also announced that they will take a 47.5% cut of all digital asset sales on its platform. And that, not surprisingly, is enraging some potential sellers.
To put it into perspective, NFT sales on OpenSea carry just a 2.5% commission. And the highest combined state and local sales tax among major cities in the U.S. is 10.3%, in Tacoma, Wash.

EMERGING TECH: The world’s largest wind turbines have started generating power in England.
Standing at 195 meters tall, Burbo Bank wind farm now has the tallest wind turbines in commercial use on the planet. 32 of the gargantuan new turbines went live last week off the northeast coast of England. Each one is fitted with three 80-meter-long blades which can power a home for 29 hours in a single revolution.
LOCAL: Invasive fish found in rivers near Yellowstone National Park.
An angler caught a smallmouth bass while fishing on the Gardner River, a stone's throw away from Yellowstone National park.
This is a big deal because smallmouth bass are not native to this area, and an established population could pose massive threats to native fish in the upper Yellowstone River and others. How the bass arrived at this location is unknown.
